Had to choose between a 5% raise or an extra week of PTO last month

I took the PTO because I was burnt out after 3 years at the same desk. Ended up using that week to interview at another place and got a 15% raise instead. Has anyone else gambled on time off like that?

Flip the script on these companies, man. They think time off is something you lose, but it's the best time to plan your next move. Taking that week for interviews instead of just vacation showed me that bosses usually only care about loyalty until you want something better. There's something about having space away from your normal routine that makes it way easier to see when you're being undervalued.

Wait, weren't you worried they'd see you weren't actually on vacation or something? I always feel like companies track that stuff closer than they let on.
