I finally figured out why my crown moulding joints were popping

Spent 3 whole weekends fighting with crown moulding in my brother's new house outside of Nashville. Kept getting these tiny gaps that would show up a day after I nailed everything up. Turns out I wasn't letting the wood acclimate long enough, I was only waiting 24 hours instead of 72 like my old timer neighbor finally told me. Anyone else ever chase a simple fix like that for way too long?

You weren't letting the wood acclimate long enough" - man that hit home. I did the exact same thing with baseboards last summer and it drove me crazy for weeks. It's funny how that idea of rushing things pops up everywhere, not just in woodworking but in like cooking and even relationships too. We always think we can cut the waiting time short and get away with it until the cracks show up. Took me way too long to learn that some processes just have their own schedule and you can't speed them up.

Oh yeah, Kevin nailed it with that "acclimating" bit. I literally did the same thing with a bookshelf project last fall, stacked the wood in the garage for a day and thought "good enough." Spoiler alert: it wasn't. That thing warped so bad I could've used it as a banana stand. It's like a universal law - the universe loves to remind you that shortcuts are just longer paths to regret. I swear I learn this lesson every other month and still manage to forget it by the next project.
