I finally remembered why we used padding tape on a beach house job

Traveled to fix a saltwater-damaged carpet last spring. The old guy there showed me his method with paper tape. Said it held up better in damp air. We mostly use plastic now, but his way worked. Makes me think we lost some good tricks.

Yeah but sometimes the old way solved a specific problem the new stuff doesn't. Plastic tape is great until you're in a place that never fully dries out. That guy probably learned that the hard way.

Honestly the new stuff works fine too. Sometimes an upgrade is just an upgrade, not a lost trick.
