inUpdate: Chose a great FONT DUO for our family vacation scrapbook.
Have you ever spent hours picking fonts only to realize it didn't matter? I'm with thomas587 on this one because fonts can be a REAL distraction. I once made a vacation album and got so stuck on finding the IDEAL font combo that I almost didn't finish it. My family just wanted to see the pictures and read the funny captions, they didn't care about the letter shapes. That whole experience taught me to not sweat the small stuff so much. Now I just pick something clear and spend my energy on the actual memories.

inWarning: My time cooking in a remote fishing village shifted my whole approach
Yeah but that hassle @blakeo57 mentioned is exactly the point. Systems keep you safe, but they can crush the soul of the food. You need a bit of both to make anything good.

inI thought power sanders were for amateurs until a tight deadline proved me wrong
Wait, were you using a handheld sander or a big floor model? The big floor sanders almost never have good built-in dust bags, you really need to hook them up to a shop vac. Did your friend's setup have that?

inSerious question, what's your record for waiting on a subfloor to dry?
You're so right about needing a dehumidifier no matter what. My friend tried to install flooring in his basement without one. He just waited a few weeks thinking the subfloor was dry. The boards started warping within months because the air was still damp. @kimw16 is correct that you need to pull moisture from the air first. Always check with a meter, not just time.
