Overheard a guy at the supply house say something that clicked

Was grabbing some seam tape yesterday and heard an older installer telling a new guy that 80% of carpet callbacks come from bad seams, not the carpet itself. Made me think about how I've been rushing the power stretcher setup on some jobs. Anyone else find that spending an extra 10 minutes on the seam prep cuts down on complaints?

Geez, I gotta disagree with you both on this one. I think spending too much time on prep can backfire if you're not careful about what you're actually doing. Seen plenty of guys take forever on seams and still mess them up because they're overthinking it.

Wait, were you there hiding behind a rack of tack strip too? Because I swear that guy was talking directly to me after I spent three hours last week redoing a seam that blew out because I was "saving time" by not taping the backing properly. Man, I've got a folder full of photos of my own seam failures that I use as a reminder to slow down. It's like my brain thinks a 10 minute shortcut is gonna make me a hero, but then I'm back there two days later with a heat iron and a prayer. That extra time on the prep work is basically insurance against your own dumb mistakes, which I've got plenty of.
