Saw a carpet job in a 1920s hotel lobby in Savannah that made me rethink pattern matching
They had this huge, complex medallion design and every single seam was invisible. The installer told me he spent an extra day just on the layout. Anyone know a good trick for aligning patterns on a curve?

Man, that installer earned his pay. On curves you have to cut the pattern into smaller pieces, almost like making darts in fabric. The trick is marking your match points before the adhesive sets and working from the center out. I've seen guys use chalk lines on the backing to keep everything lined up as they go. Takes patience most people don't have anymore.

Yeah the "patience most people don't have anymore" part is so true. It feels like everything now is about instant results, from fast food to next-day delivery. We don't value the slow, careful work that makes things last. You see it in cheap furniture that falls apart and rushed repair jobs.
