That cheap seam tape cost me a recall on a whole living room job

I bought a roll of no-name seam tape for $8 at a discount supply place instead of my usual $22 brand. Within two weeks the seams started peeling up in a client's living room near the window. Had to pull up 30 feet of carpet, reinstall it, and eat the cost of new padding. Has anyone else gotten burned by saving a few bucks on seam tape?

Yeah I've seen that stuff too. The roll looks fine on the shelf but once you heat it up it just melts into a sticky mess that doesn't hold anything. Had a buddy try using that dollar store tape on his jacket and the seam came apart after one wash. It's basically hot glue with a fancy label. You're better off spending a few extra bucks on the good stuff from a reputable brand. Cheap tape is just false advertising and wasted time.
