Unpopular opinion: Rushing chimney caps is a bad idea

I thought getting caps on fast was key. A windstorm proved me wrong by blowing one off.

Isn't it funny how we learn these lessons? I made the same mistake a few years back after a raccoon got in. I rushed to cap it myself to stop it happening again. The next good rain proved my quick fix was useless, water just poured in. It really is worth taking the time to do it right, or hiring someone who will. A good, solid installation matters so much more than speed.
