Heard a city council member say local solar is elitist, got me thinking
Last week in Austin, a council member argued against a neighborhood solar rebate program, saying it only helps wealthy homeowners who can afford panels. But the same meeting had data showing rental properties and low income areas get zero benefit from current incentives. I see both sides: upfront costs are steep, around $12k average, while community solar projects could spread access better. Still, banning local solar feels like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Do you think cities should push community solar over rooftop panels, or is there a middle path that actually works for renters and poor neighborhoods? Any examples of programs that pulled it off?
