Rant: I used to send every file as PDF/X-1a, now clients just drop RGB JPGs in a shared folder
About 8 years ago I would not send anything to press unless it was a flattened PDF/X-1a with the profile baked in, and I kept a little dance of checking separations by hand. Now three of my regular clients just drop raw RGB JPGs into a Google Drive folder and act like I am being difficult when I ask for anything else. The shift happened around 2021 when one shop in Fresno started taking my files straight from the phone and fixing them on their end for no extra charge. So I loosened up, and sure enough my last poster job came back with the blacks looking brown and one logo glow turned into a flat orange blob. Anyone else just give in and start prepping files for whatever the printer can swallow? Curious what you ask for now vs. what you used to demand.
