Tried a $12 yellow ink swap on a whim and my greens finally stopped looking like swamp water
I print shirts out of my garage in Sacramento and greens have been the thing that kicks my butt for months. Every design with any leaf or grass in it came out looking muddy and brownish, no matter what I did to the color settings. Last Tuesday I was mixing a batch for a small order of 20 shirts and on a total whim I tried a different yellow ink that had a slightly warmer tone to it than the one I usually run. Swapped it in, printed a test square, and the green that came off the screen looked so much cleaner and brighter that I just stood there staring at it. Turns out the yellow I had been using had a tiny bit of blue hiding in it that was killing my greens at the edges. What I learned is that the yellow channel is doing way more work in a green build than I ever gave it credit for. I ended up reprinting the whole 20 shirt run with the new mix and the customer asked me what I changed because she loved it. Does anyone else keep a spare yellow around just to test greens, or am I the only one who stumbled into this by accident?
