Debate: Should you trust soft proofing in Photoshop or just run test prints?

I spent 4 hours tweaking a logo to match screen colors, then ran a test print and it came out completely flat. Do you folks trust the built-in soft proofing tools or do you just print samples first?

Soft proofing is kinda hit or miss honestly. You really gotta calibrate your monitor first or else the whole thing's a waste.

A 4-hour tweak for one logo? That hurts to hear, @leebrown. I've been burned by trusting the screen too, especially after I spent $500 on a monitor calibrator and the print still looked wrong. I always run a small test print now before going full batch, it saves me the headache.
