Just burned $400 on a batch of business cards because I trusted my monitor
The blues looked perfect on screen but came out looking like a bruised purple mess. Anyone else ever have a print shop hit you with 'we just printed what you sent'?

Every printing shop has a proofing process for a reason, you gotta request a physical proof before you let them run a whole batch. Most places will literally email you a PDF proof for free and you can look at it on three different screens and it'll still lie to you because every monitor is calibrated differently. The real pro tip is to ask for a Pantone matching or bring in a physical swatch from a previous print job so they have something real to match against. Once you hit approve on that digital proof, the liability shifts entirely to you because they can point right back at what you signed off on.

...and that's exactly what happened to me with some wedding invitations last year. I approved the PDF proof on my laptop, but when they printed them the pink came out looking more like a dirty salmon. The shop just pointed back to my sign-off and I had to eat the cost of a reprint. Learned my lesson the hard way.
