Shoutout to the day I finally matched my screen blue to the print blue after 6 tries

I spent all last Tuesday adjusting my monitor profile until that deep navy in the logo came out exactly the same on a coated stock proof, and I almost cried when I held them side by side - has anyone else had a moment where CMYK and RGB actually agreed on a color?

Oh come on, you really think they matched? That's wishful thinking at best. You held them up in perfect lighting side by side and your eyes played tricks on you, guaranteed. Take that print outside in the sun or under a warm bulb and watch that "perfect match" turn into a completely different shade of something you don't even recognize. I've wasted a whole week chasing the same stupid navy and it never holds up in real world conditions. Plus you're probably on a cheap monitor or didn't calibrate in a dark room, so that blue is lying to you right now. The only time CMYK and RGB actually agree is when you're not looking for it and you've already stopped caring.

Yeah I actually saw some article about how the human eye can only really judge color accurately for like two seconds before it starts compensating. So by the time you think you've got a match your brain is already lying to you. @joseph_lewis92 is right about the navy thing too. I had a client last month who insisted their logo was a certain deep blue on screen and then got mad when the business cards came back looking purple under office lights. Tried explaining gamma and viewing angles but they just wanted me to reprint the whole batch. Waste of two days.
