The art supply store sale rack taught me about color matching

I was picking up paint at a shop in Portland last Saturday and grabbed a misprinted poster from the bargain bin. The store clerk said the customer rejected it because the deep blue on screen came out purple on paper, and that's when it hit me that I've been blaming printers for years when my monitor profile was the real liar. Has anyone else traced a bad print back to their display settings instead of the machine?

Printers earn their blame plenty, monitors aren't the only liars in that room.
