Had a collet nut crack mid-job on a Haas VF-2 last Thursday
I was running a 3/8 endmill on some 6061 aluminum around 3 PM and heard this weird pinging sound. Looked over and saw the collet nut had a crack running about halfway down the side. I shut the spindle down fast but it was already wobbling a bit. The part was scrap so I lost about 45 minutes of run time plus the material. Swapped in a spare nut I had in my toolbox and bumped up my torque routine to check them every 20 hours instead of guessing. Anyone else had a nut fail on them like that or was mine just a dud?

lmao a cracked nut isn't exactly the end of the world, just change it and move on.
