Just realized G54 with a probe beats edge finding by hand every single time
I ran a batch of 40 aluminum brackets last Friday and set every single one with the probe on my Haas, hit the green button, and never scrapped a part. My old way was an edge finder and a dial, and I'd lose about 3 or 4 parts a run to someone fat fingering an offset by a few thousandths. Has anyone else made that switch and actually stuck with it? Sharing my notes if you want them.
Losing 3 or 4 parts a run sounds more like a setup problem than a probe vs edge finder problem. If someone is fat fingering offsets by a few thousandths, that same person can fat finger the probe offsets too. The probe just moves where the mistake happens. Forty brackets with zero scrap is a good run, but one batch doesn't really prove much either way. Plenty of shops have run edge finders for decades without scrapping parts because they built in checks, not because the tool is magic.
