Ran a 3/8 carbide end mill at 400 sfm on 304 stainless, and it actually worked fine.

Everyone in the shop said it would burn up, but I got a clean finish and the tool is still good after 50 parts. Has anyone else pushed the book speeds on stainless and been surprised?

Everyone said it would burn up" sounds like shop superstition.

My buddy ignored the old "it'll burn up" line about a used motor, @kellyj23. He got it cheap and just changed the oil right away. That thing ran for years in his truck without a single problem. Makes you wonder how many good deals people pass on because of that same fear. Sometimes shop talk is just passed-down worry, not real advice.
