Guy at the roaster counter in Boise asked if my beans were 3 days or 3 weeks old, and I didn't know
Stood there with a bag I'd had in the cabinet for maybe 2 weeks and had zero answer, just handed over my card like that fixed it. He pulled a bag with a roast date stamped on the bottom and told me the difference is night and day in the cup, so now I'm that person checking dates. Anyone here actually track roast dates, or do you just drink it and not stress?
Man, I've been there. Grabbed a bag off the shelf at the store, got home, and had no clue when it was roasted because the only date on it was some "best by" thing six months out. Turns out that bag was probably sitting there for a month before I even bought it, and the cup tasted flat and sad compared to the fresh stuff. Now I check the bottom of every bag like a weirdo, and yeah, the difference is real. Two weeks isn't the end of the world but three days hits totally different.
