Had the worst pour-over morning of my life at a cafe in Portland

Stopped at this small shop on SE Division last Tuesday, watched the barista grind beans before even heating water, then the scale died mid-brew and she just eyeballed the ratio. Ended up with a cup that tasted like burnt grapefruit juice. Has anyone else hit a spot where the vibe was great but the execution totally fell apart?
