Ngl, I keep seeing people use light gray text on white backgrounds in their app mockups. How do you even check if that's readable?

Check your contrast ratios with a tool like WebAIM's checker, it's free and fast. Honestly, some designers seem to forget that not everyone has perfect vision or a super bright screen. I always squint at my phone in direct sunlight to test my own designs, it's a brutal but useful reality check. If it fails that test, the gray needs to go darker.

WebAIM's checker is a solid start, @emma_ramirez. I mean, that squint test is the real deal though, it catches stuff tools sometimes miss. You just have to make it work for real people.
