My color wheel from 2011 is still sitting on my desk and I can't toss it
I found my old pocket color wheel from art school back in 2011 while cleaning my desk in Denver last week, and it still has a coffee ring on the blue section from a late night final project. For the last 3 years I've done everything in Figma with hex codes and auto palettes, and honestly it's faster. But last Tuesday I was stuck on a muted green palette for a client's logo and pulled the wheel out just to see. Found the combo in about 2 minutes by spinning it, which is faster than I care to admit after 3 years of copying codes. Does anyone else still keep paper color tools around, or am I just holding onto clutter?
I used to roll my eyes at the paper wheel people in my design classes, figured it was just nostalgia and a way to feel fancy about being slow. Then I got stuck on a weird mustard palette last month and grabbed one from a thrift store for two bucks, mostly as a joke. Joke was on me, I had the whole thing sorted in five minutes and felt like an idiot for all the years I spent dragging sliders around. There is something about seeing the colors next to each other in real light that a screen just can't do. Keep the coffee ring, it's part of the tool now.
