Showerthought: my mom's red kitchen wall made every food photo look bad, and I just figured out why
I spent about 3 hours fighting with my camera settings at my mom's house in Fresno last weekend, trying to shoot her famous enchiladas for a family cookbook, but everything came out looking gray and sad. Turns out the red wall was bouncing warm light onto the plates and messing with my white balance the whole time, so I moved one plate by the window and it looked perfect in 2 minutes. Does anyone else run into this with colored rooms, and do you fix it in camera or just bail and move the shot somewhere else?
Feel your pain on this one, colored walls are the worst for food shots. My sister's kitchen has this dark green paint and it made everything look like it was sitting under a swamp lamp. Moving the plate by the window was smart, way faster than messing with settings for hours.
