I finally saw the difference between two traffic light designs

There's a new intersection near my apartment and the pedestrian walk signal uses a flashing blue light instead of the usual flashing red hand. My colorblind friend pointed out he can't tell when the red hand is flashing versus solid. The blue light is a completely different shape AND color, so he knows instantly. It made me realize how much we rely on color alone. Has anyone else seen a traffic signal that uses a better system like this?

My town still uses the old red hand ones. Honestly, it's like they want people to play a guessing game with their lives.

Honestly, that "guessing game" feeling is so real. My old neighborhood had the same red hand system and it was a mess for my dad. They finally switched to a countdown timer with a different beep pattern, and that simple change made a huge difference for him.
