Talked to a web designer friend who didn't know color blindness affects men more

Was hanging out with this guy Dave who's been making websites for like 5 years and he had no idea 1 in 12 men have some form of color blindness. He said he just picks colors that look good to him personally and never tests them. How do you guys actually check your designs without spending a bunch on software?

Man that reminds me of my buddy Mike who painted his whole living room like a dark green and blue. His wife walked in and was like "why is it all the same color?" Turns out he couldn't tell them apart at all. Had to repaint the whole thing.

That story about Mike and his living room is wild @the_lee. If he really couldn't tell dark green and blue apart, he must have some kind of color blindness that a lot of people don't realize they have. It makes you wonder how many other guys out there are picking paint colors without actually seeing them right. I bet his wife was pretty frustrated having to buy all new paint and start over again. But honestly, that's the kind of thing that can be really tricky with home projects when you don't know your own eyes are playing tricks on you. He should probably get his vision checked just to be safe, and maybe stick to lighter shades next time.
