Overheard a guy at the comic shop say he only reads new stuff now
He was telling the clerk he doesn't bother with anything older than five years because 'it's all been done better since.' Made me realize how much amazing history and context you miss with that mindset. What's the best older story you've read that a new fan might skip over?

My own reading list is basically a museum of old comics, so maybe I'm the wrong guy to ask. That mindset is like only eating the newest flavor of ice cream and missing out on classic chocolate. A new fan skipping "The Dark Knight Returns" because it's from the 80s is missing a master class in storytelling. The art and ideas in that book shaped everything that came after it.

Totally get what you're saying, man. I tried getting a friend into comics and they only wanted the latest number one issues. Felt like trying to explain why an old movie is still good, you know? Missing out on Watchmen or Year One because of the date is just crazy to me. That older stuff built the whole language of the medium.

Ngl, I once let a friend borrow my old Amazing Spider-Man run and they got mad about the ads.
