inSerious question, my client in Chicago refused to pay after I delivered the work last Tuesday, saying the contract was 'too vague'. I had to file in small claims for the $1,200 they owed. What specific terms do you all put in your agreements to avoid this?
Ugh, that's the worst! I read a blog post by a lawyer who said the magic words are "work for hire" and "payment is due upon delivery, not acceptance." That last one stops clients from holding money hostage by saying they're not "happy." Also, I list exactly what "revisions" means, like "two rounds of minor changes to the initial draft." Super clear.

inSugar in ferments is useless, my latest batch shows why
Last summer, my friend Ben added some sugar to his beer wort. It fermented so fast the airlock blew off.

inQuestion about our book club's view on the home fixing in 'A Man Called Ove'
My buddy Carl's furnace died last January during a cold snap. He tinkered with it for two days straight, just like Ove. @the_phoenix, your comment about the heater really says everything.

inUnpopular opinion: I stopped rushing the bullfloat stage.
Hold up, saying it 'sets up better' isn't always true. Letting concrete sit too long can make the surface dry out fast. On a hot day, that extra time causes the top to harden before you float it. Then you end up pulling up chunks instead of smooth cream. I've seen slabs crack because the mix set unevenly. Waiting might seem smart but it can ruin the whole job.
