Tried writing a 50-word story with zero adjectives, and my whole prompt group split in half over it
Half of them said it read cold and flat, the other half said it was the most honest thing I'd written in a year. Is cutting every adjective a real exercise or just a gimmick that guts a story?
The "cold and flat" thing used to be my whole take on stuff like this, not gonna lie. Then I tried it myself and realized I was just scared of how much the nouns had to carry on their own. It's a real exercise, it just shows you where you've been hiding behind fancy words.
