Got sent down to 180 feet off the Gulf coast to fix a valve, and the whole job went sideways before we even got wet.

My buddy had a job like that once... they were prepping the dive and the main winch cable just snapped, dropped the whole tool cage right through the deck grating. Took them two days just to fish everything out of the water before they could even think about going down.

That reminds me of a rig story where a crane operator swung a load too wide and clipped the galley. Sent a whole pallet of eggs and bacon flying into the North Sea. Breakfast that week was just stale crackers.

My uncle worked on a supply boat that had to recover a dropped cage like that off Newfoundland. The real kicker was the insurance company made them document every single tool they pulled up, even the bent wrenches and broken drill bits. They spent more time on paperwork than the actual salvage.
