Am I the only one who doesn't bother with anti-static straps?
I've never ruined a part by skipping them.

Wait, you've never fried a component even once? Static damage doesn't always show up right away. A part can work for a while and then fail early. I've seen it happen to friends who thought they were being careful. That's why I never skip the strap.

The tech who looked at it said the failure pattern pointed to static shock during the build. Jake always joked about anti-static gear being overkill, but he bought a wrist strap the same day. Yeah, and the real kicker is the damage might not even kill the part. It can just make it run worse or less stable over time. So you're chasing down weird crashes or bad performance, and the whole time it's because of a tiny shock you gave it months ago. That's what makes @jordangibson's point so solid. If you skip the strap, you might never know what you actually did. You just end up with a computer that feels a little off for no clear reason.
