Can we talk about the time a $2 thermal pad saved a whole motherboard?
Had a laptop from a regular that wouldn't post, and after swapping everything, I found the issue was a missing pad on a tiny voltage regulator. Anyone else had a weird, cheap fix like that?

Classic. The whole machine held hostage by a piece of rubber the size of a grain of rice.

Right? "Held hostage" is the perfect way to put it. My old printer once bricked itself over a single broken plastic tooth inside a gear. The sheer disproportion is just maddening.
