Shoutout to the repair shop on 5th Ave that let me watch them work
Stopped by a small repair shop in Tucson called Bixby's last week to drop off a laptop and the owner let me hang around while he reflowed a busted GPU. I've been fixing machines for 8 years and never actually watched a proper reflow with a $40 heat gun and a thermocouple taped to the board. He walked me through why he preheats at 150C for 90 seconds before ramping up, and I got home and saved a dead Dell that three other techs gave up on. Has anyone else picked up a trick just from standing in someone else's shop for an hour?

Get that feeling so hard, I spent a whole afternoon once just watching an old guy in Mesa trace a short on a Macbook board with a scope and a tiny needle probe. He kept saying heat is the enemy of everything and showed me how he checks for dead shorts before ever plugging in a power brick. Took that one habit home and it has saved me from frying at least four boards since. Bixby's sounds like the real deal if the guy actually talks you through his process instead of just shooing you out the door.
