That one Thursday where everything went right on a 40-yard pour
Last Thursday we had a 40-yard driveway pour scheduled in Maplewood and I was dreading it because the forecast said storms. But the clouds held off, the mud came in at a perfect 4 inch slump, and we floated the whole thing by 2 PM without a single cold joint. Has anyone else had one of those miracle days where the concrete gods just smile on you?

Miles is worried about the long game, I get it. But I read something in a concrete trade magazine once that said a perfect pour day happens about once every 300 jobs. That Thursday was probably that one for the year. You can do everything right and still get bit by bad timing or a driver who dumps too fast. So when the stars align like that, I'm taking the win and not waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I gotta disagree with you on that. A 40-yard pour that goes smooth is a gift but calling it a miracle day seems like a stretch. I've seen way too many of those "perfect" jobs turn around and bite you later because somebody didn't wet the subgrade enough or they forgot to bury a dowel basket. You got lucky with the weather and the slump, but that's just one Thursday. The concrete gods are still out to get you the next time.
