Question about that $200 EMF meter I bought to check my router, total waste
I got sucked into a conspiracy thread about smart meters and routers giving off bad radiation, so I dropped $200 on an EMF meter from a site that looked legit. I spent a whole weekend walking around my apartment in Chicago pointing it at my router, my fridge, even my phone, and the readings were all over the place depending on how I held it. A guy at a local meetup in Wicker Park said his $30 meter gave the same numbers as his $400 one, so I felt like a total sucker. I still don't know what's real with these devices, does anyone have a meter that actually gives consistent readings or is this whole thing just junk science?
Man, same exact thing happened to me last year. Bought a $180 meter off some site that had fake reviews and it jumped all over the place, like 2 to 80 depending on if my hand was near the sensor or not. Found out later that most of these cheap meters pick up all kinds of stuff and the readings mean nothing without a lab setup. A guy I work with has a $500 one for his job and even he says you need to know what frequency you're looking for or it's just noise. The whole thing made me feel dumb for falling for it, but honestly the fear gets you first before the logic kicks in. Now I just keep my router in a normal spot and stopped worrying about it, saved myself a lot of stress and money.
