Dude who told me to triple-check my welds on container joints was right

Buddy from a build forum said my MIG welds would crack if I didn't grind down to bare metal first. Found three hairline fractures after the first rain last month - cost me $400 to redo them. Anyone else had welders give bad advice that almost ruined their build?

Oh man, I learned that exact lesson the hard way too. A guy on a farm equipment forum told me a quick flap disc pass was good enough on some old trailer frame steel. Spent a whole weekend chasing cracks that showed up after a few heavy loads.

Wait, a quick flap disc pass? That's insane. @reese551 I can't believe someone actually told you that was okay for trailer frame steel, every old-school welder I know would lose it hearing that.
