Pro tip: skip the $200 keratin smoothing kit from the beauty expo, it wrecked a client's hair
I went to the expo in Dallas back in March and got talked into a $200 keratin smoothing kit at one of those booths. The guy demoed it on a mannequin and it looked amazing, so I bought it and used it on a regular client two weeks later. Her hair felt great for about 10 days, then it started snapping off near the roots in chunks. I had to spend 3 hours doing a repair treatment for free and cut about 4 inches off to even it out. She was nice about it but I know she told people, because two of her friends stopped booking with me. The kit went in the trash and I ate the $200 plus the lost income. Now I test anything new on a mannequin for a full month before it goes near a real head. Has anyone else gotten burned at a trade show booth, and how do you screen products before trying them on clients?
