Am I the only one who thinks the new electronic load indicators are overrated?

Had a chat with an old-timer named Jerry at the scrapyard last week. He said his boom angle chart and gut feeling have never let him down, but I just spent $400 on a digital setup. Who else still trusts the old ways over fancy screens on a lift?

Old screens just show you numbers, but they don't tell you when the hydraulic fluid is starting to smell burnt or if that boom has a weird rattle that wasn't there yesterday. Jerry's gut feeling probably picked up on those things over the years without him even knowing it. My new setup gave me a perfect reading last week on a lift that still felt wrong, and sure enough the cable had a fray starting nobody caught. You can't put a price on that sixth sense people get from running the same machine for twenty years... it's like an old truck that talks to you through the seat.

You ever just shut your eyes and listen to the machine run for a minute?
