DAE remember when a whole design studio fit in one room and one pizza box?
Back in 2009 I worked at a tiny studio in Austin and there were 4 of us at two folding tables with one shared monitor, and we knocked out a full brand package in 5 days. Last week I watched a 12 person team spend 3 days just picking a font for a single landing page. Nobody had a project manager back then, no standups, no mood boards, we just drew stuff and showed it to the client on Friday. I miss how fast things moved when the deliverable was simple and everyone trusted the person holding the marker. Now every tiny choice needs a deck and a review call and a version history. Is it just me, or did creative work get better when we stopped calling everything a process?
Keep the team small and the decisions in one room and you get that speed back, trust me. I ran a 3 person shop for years and the rule was whoever held the marker made the call, then we just showed the client. Add one more layer of approval and you double the time, every single time.
