Found out my local sign shop uses a 40 year old plotter
I stopped by Fast Signs in Pittsburgh last Tuesday to pick up a banner and noticed this giant machine clanking away in the back. Turns out it's a Gerber 4B from 1983 that still cuts vinyl better than anything new they've got. The owner told me they've only replaced the blade holder twice in four decades. Has anyone else seen old gear running circles around modern stuff?

It's crazy how often older stuff just works better, like my grandpa's 1980s toaster that still makes perfect toast.

Ugh, come on. Is making toast really that deep? It's a piece of bread in an electric box. I bet your grandpa's toaster has exactly one setting too, so you can't even adjust it for bagels or frozen waffles. Yeah it works, but so does a $20 toaster from Walmart. People act like older appliances are some kind of magic, when really they just don't have any features to break.
