Fresh paint job looked great until the sun hit it at noon

I painted a mural at a coworking space in Austin last week and didn't check the lighting at all. Come 2pm, the whole right side looked washed out and the yellow I used turned almost neon in the direct sun. Had to repaint that section with flatter tones and it took me 3 extra hours. Anyone else ever miss the sun angle and mess up a wall piece?

That sun has a way of just roasting bad color choices alive. Painted a patio once with what looked like a nice muted sage from the can. Come high noon, it was straight up highlighter green. Looked like a traffic cone exploded. Had to repaint the whole thing at midnight just to be safe. Nothing like learning color theory the hard way with a paintbrush in hand.

Is it just me or does everything look totally different once you get it home and put it in place? Paint colors, rugs, furniture it's like stores have this magic lighting that lies to you. I swear the universe has a rule that whatever you pick will transform into something hideous the second it hits actual sunlight. There's probably some bigger life lesson there about not trusting first impressions or how things look in a controlled setting. But mostly I think it's just the world messing with us for fun.
