My cousin said I could not make a cloud with one div, so I showed him 40 box shadows
About 6 months ago my cousin who does front end kept telling me pure CSS art was a waste of time and that anything real needs SVG or a canvas. I told him I could build a full cloud with one div and nothing else, and he laughed at me. So I sat down that weekend in my kitchen in Boise and stacked 40 box shadows on a single element, each one a soft circle at different offsets and blur radii. It took me 3 tries to get the shading right because my first pass looked like a gray blob, but once I tweaked the spread on the outer layers it actually looked like a cloud. He went quiet when I showed him the code and asked me how the blur worked. Now I want to try a whole storm scene with the same trick, but I am stuck on rain. Has anyone done falling rain with only gradients and keyframes, and does it look decent or should I not bother?
