Serious question, did your garage door opener teach you about network security?

I was messing with my smart garage opener last weekend, trying to get it to work with my phone from anywhere. Thing is, I never changed the default password it came with, and my neighbor's kid accidentally opened it while playing with his app. That freaked me out, so I looked into it and found out these things are often left wide open for hackers. Now I always change default logins and set up two-factor auth on any smart device. It's crazy how something so simple can make such a big difference. Really makes you check all your gadgets, you know?

Oh man, that's so true, it goes way beyond garage doors. I did the same thing with my router for years, just kept the sticker password, and then learned how many devices are basically shouting their login info to the whole block. My friend had a similar scare with a baby monitor that was still on the factory settings. It's wild to think your coffee maker or light bulbs could be the weak link. Makes you go on a total password-changing spree once it clicks.

Ugh, right? I just realized my smart plugs were on the default login too... it's creepy how much of our house is basically wide open.
