Warning: I blew almost $2k on a 'growth coach' who just gave me generic advice I could have read online.

What did they promise you for that money?

The shop next door in Springfield still uses old body filler on aluminum panels

Yeah, that comeback job you mentioned is no joke. My buddy had the same thing happen on a Silverado quarter panel. They used the old stuff, and within eight months it was bubbling everywhere. He had to eat the whole repair. Swore by 416 after that too.

PSA: I keep seeing techs skip the thermal paste check on laptops that just shut down

That Dayton story is a perfect example of why @the_henry's method is the right call. Skipping the paste check just wastes everyone's time.

My friend in Seattle told me to skip the '90s X-Men reboot and I regret it.

Honestly that's the worst feeling. Tbh I got talked out of reading the early Hellboy stuff for years because a guy at my old shop said it was too slow. Finally grabbed the library editions and it's one of my favorite things ever. Bad advice can really make you miss out. Some people just have a super specific taste and act like it's fact. Gotta just try stuff for yourself sometimes.

Serious question, did your garage door opener teach you about network security?

Oh man, that's so true, it goes way beyond garage doors. I did the same thing with my router for years, just kept the sticker password, and then learned how many devices are basically shouting their login info to the whole block. My friend had a similar scare with a baby monitor that was still on the factory settings. It's wild to think your coffee maker or light bulbs could be the weak link. Makes you go on a total password-changing spree once it clicks.
