Hit the exact contrast ratio on a client's dark theme, elated for about 10 seconds
After 6 tries tweaking the same card background in Figma, I finally got 4.5:1 on white text, then the client asked for a slightly darker gray and I had to start over, has anyone else had a victory get immediately undone by a 'minor tweak'?

That tweak probably took you five minutes to fix. The client asking for a slightly darker gray might actually be the best part of the whole job, because it means they are looking close and care about the result. Six tries on one contrast ratio sounds more like a habit than a craft. Perfect 4.5:1 on white text is the baseline, not a trophy. If the tiny change makes you redo the whole card, then your setup was too stiff to begin with. The real skill is building a theme where a small shift doesn't wreck the whole balance, not celebrating a number for ten seconds.
