I spent a whole Tuesday fighting eye strain until I bumped my dark gray up from #121212 to #1A1A1A.
Has anyone else found a specific shade that just feels way better for long sessions?

Oh man, that dark gray bump is such a real fix! I had the same thing with my code editor. I kept the main background at #1A1A1A but made my sidebar a touch lighter, like #242424. That tiny bit of contrast helps my eyes find different areas without any strain. It feels way less like staring into a void for hours.

Try adding a third shade for active lines or tabs. It creates a visual hierarchy that guides your focus without needing to search. That extra layer made my late-night coding sessions way more productive.
