My dashboard project hit 87% user retention after switching from pure black to dark gray
I was convinced pure black (#000000) was the only way to go for a financial dashboard I'm building. The analytics from the first two weeks showed a 30% drop-off rate. After reading a case study from Spotify's design team about reducing eye strain, I switched the main background to a dark charcoal (#121212). The next month, retention jumped to 87%. Has anyone else seen a big change from just tweaking the base dark color?

That's interesting, but the numbers seem off. A color change alone wouldn't fix a 30% drop-off. There were probably other factors at play that month, like a marketing push or a key feature launch. Pure black can be harsh, sure, but the jump is too big to credit just to a gray background. You should check if anything else changed in the user flow at the same time.

Yeah but what if they ran an A/B test and didn't tell anyone... that would explain the weird jump.
