PSA: My dark mode text hit 1.9:1 contrast on a real phone at 11pm and I felt sick
I was at home in Denver last Tuesday, showing a client the dark theme on my phone when I tilted the screen and half the copy just vanished into the background. Turns out my gray text was #6b6b6b on a #1a1a1a card, which looks fine in Figma on my bright monitor but falls apart in a dim room. I opened the file right then and bumped the text to #e0e0e0 and dropped the card to #121212, then checked it at 20% brightness in a closet and it finally held up. The fix took ten minutes, but we had already pushed that build to 40 testers. Does anyone here run contrast checks at low screen brightness before ship, or is it just me learning this the hard way?

Man, that sinking feeling when you realize the thing you shipped is broken for everyone in the dark. Been there. I did a similar thing last winter, tested my whole site at like 100% brightness on a bright desk and it looked great, then laid in bed that night and pulled it up and the footer text was basically invisible. Grey on grey, total mush. Now I just dim my phone down to like 15% and walk into a room with no lights on before I call anything done. Ten minutes of checking saves you a week of apologizing to testers.
