Showerthought: Dark mode colors shifted from plain black to soft tones

I recall when dark themes were just black screens with bright text, which felt harsh during late nights. Now, we mix dark grays and warm undertones to ease eye strain and create a calm vibe. For example, my old app used pure black, but changing to a charcoal shade helped users stick around longer. It's nice to see design evolve for better screen time.

You mentioned how charcoal shades help users stick around, and that's so true. Back then, pure black themes felt like staring into a void with text slapped on top. Now, those warm grays and muted colors just feel easier on the brain, especially after hours online. My own eyes thank the designers who moved past simple black and white. It's one of those small changes that actually makes daily tech use less of a grind.

Feel this so much, especially working late when my eyes are already tired. That shift from harsh black to softer grays felt like someone finally turned the brightness down on my whole screen. I used to get headaches from pure dark mode, but the warmer tones just let everything sit still instead of fighting for attention.
