Old press operator told me to always check paper grain direction 15 years ago
Back in 2008 I was learning offset printing at a small shop in Denver. Old guy named Frank kept telling me grain direction matters for folding. I thought he was being picky. Last month I printed 500 business cards for a client and they all cracked down the middle when folded. Had to redo the whole batch. He was right the whole time. Anyone else ignore advice from old timers and regret it later?

Frank was dead on about paper grain. Had a similar situation with a batch of menus last year. Ignored the old guy who showed me how to check it with a tear and ended up with cracked folds on every single one.
Nothing worse than staring at a ruined run knowing an old timer warned you.

Took me three ruined batches to learn that lesson myself.
