The day a client's logo file was just a picture of a cat

A new customer sent over their 'logo file' for some business cards, and it was a 72 dpi screenshot of their actual cat. They said, 'Just make it look professional.' I spent about an hour trying to explain vector art before they asked if I could just 'trace it real good.' Has anyone else had to gently break the news that a pet photo isn't a brand asset?

Yeah, the tracing request is a real trip. What finally worked for me was making a super quick, rough vector trace of their photo right then, and showing them how blocky and weird it looks blown up on a business card mockup. I just say, "See how it gets all fuzzy and loses the cute details? That's why we start from scratch." It gives them a visual that words can't.

My cousin once sent me a photo of her dog's paw print for her bakery logo. The "trace it real good" request is a classic.
